Surrounding the new Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi in northern Japan are beautiful white birch tree forests. Noted for its distinct white coloration and texture, the bark of these trees inspires the latest in Grand Seiko's Evolution 9 Collection, SLGH005.
Evolution 9 is the name of Grand Seiko's new design language first introduced with reference SLGH002 in 2020. With its complex faceted case; large hands and prominent markers; Zaratsu-polished, distortion-free finish; and highly ergonomic proportions, Evolution 9 will be an important part of Grand Seiko's catalog for years to come.
Boasting a distinct vertical texture, the white dial captures the serene mood of the white birch tree forest. Contrasting against the dial texture are highly legible markers and hands, which include a striking heat-blued second hand.
First presented in 2020, caliber 9SA5 was developed from the ground up after 9 years of development, the endeavor led by movement designer Hisashi Fujieda. 9SA5 is a 10-beat movement boasting 80 hours of power reserve and a precision rate of +5 to -3 seconds a day. It incorporates three important developments: Grand Seiko's new Dual Impulse Escapement, free-spring balance, and horizontal gear train. Deploying all the skills and experience gained over the past six decades, Grand Seiko achieved in creating what is beyond a doubt the finest mechanical caliber in its repertoire.
Designed in the Evolution 9 Style, the SLGH027 refines Grand Seiko’s ideals of beauty, legibility, and comfort. Its case blends distortion-free Zaratsu polishing with delicate hairline finishes for a soft glow, while bold, grooved indexes and powerful hands enhance readability.
SLGH005 captures the dynamism of the white birch tree forests near the studio in Shizukuishi, where all Grand Seiko mechanical watches are crafted. To look closely at the dial is to experience the exact same feeling that the visitor to these forests receives and to be brought closer than ever to the true and eternal nature of time.
The case features delicate hairline-finished surfaces on the top and sides, seamlessly framing the mirror-finished areas. The bezel also blends both finishes. Zaratsu polishing ensures distortion-free surfaces, creating bold contrasts of deep shadows and sharp reflections.
The exceptional Caliber 9SA5 is a high-beat movement operating at 36,000 vibrations per hour with an impressive 80-hour power reserve.
