When sakura blossoms fall into water they swirl and float, appearing to dance atop the water. The Japanese call them flower rafts, or hanaikada. Pulling its inspiration from this tranquil scene, the SBGA413 dial—with its unique texture, subtle coloration, and mesmerizing shimmer—evokes the spirit of the fleeting sakura season.
The case design also pulls inspiration from a distinct source, this time from Grand Seiko's history. Launched in 1967, the 62GS was Grand Seiko’s first automatic watch. This timepiece gained popularity for its striking design, which featured a mirrored, multi-sided case and wide dial opening made possible via a bezel-free construction. The contemporary interpretation of the 62GS design can be seen here.
Powering the watch is Caliber 9R65, a sophisticated Spring Drive movement assembled at Shinshu Watch Studio. Emblematic of Spring Drive, the second hand glides around the dial, reflecting the continuous flow of time itself. The decorated caliber can be enjoyed through the exhibition case back.
The case design reflects Grand Seiko’s rich heritage, taking inspiration from the legendary 62GS—the brand’s first automatic watch, unveiled in 1967. Renowned for its bold mirrored surfaces, multi-faceted case, and innovative bezel-free construction that emphasizes the dial, this contemporary reinterpretation faithfully preserves the pioneering spirit of the original.
A classic Grand Seiko design with a dial inspired by Japan’s springtime cherry blossoms. A closer look reveals Hana-Ikada, the cherished scene that unfolds just after the spring equinox, Shunbun, when windblown petals blanket the river’s surface. The textured dial and soft pink hue capture the magic of this fleeting moment, expressing the beauty of Sakura while evoking the deeper appreciation of time’s transience.
Spring Drive is a groundbreaking innovation in watchmaking, combining a spring-driven movement with electronic regulation—without batteries or external power. Powered by a mainspring, it generates a small electrical charge to activate a quartz oscillator, achieving exceptional accuracy. Option for a return and refund or exchange is possible when the watch is returned in new, unworn condition, with all original contents included in the package. Upon receiving your return, Grand Seiko will verify the condition of the watch. If there are any missing items, damage, or wear found, you may be subject to fees accordingly. Please be sure to remove any jewelry or other watches before trying on the watch to avoid damage. Please do not size the watch if you return it as it will not be considered new.
